4 Michigan freshmen gave fans every reason to believe in a bright future vs. UTEP

Michigan's 52-17 win over UTEP was the first time this season that Wolverines fans got to see backups enter the game in the fourth quarter. So far this season, Michigan's matchups have been too close for comfort, meaning the starters have been in the game till the clock hits triple zeros, but against UTEP, fans got a glimpse of what the future could look like in Ann Arbor.

It isn't like there aren't any freshmen starting the Wolverines, with Savion Hiter being a big example of that, but veteran players are certainly making the lion's share of the plays. So, when guys like Tommy Carr and Carter Meadows get to take the field and make an impact, you can't help but think about the future of this program.

Well, four of those freshmen made an impact on Michigan's win over UTEP, which has us highlighting some career firsts and dreaming about what these guys will do for the Wolverines in the future.

QB Tommy Carr and WR Salesi Moa

With the game well in hand, Kyle Whittingham chose to trot his backup quarterback out on the field, who just happens to be a Michigan legacy, Tommy Carr. The same Tommy Carr who is the son of former player Jaoson Carr and former National Championship-winning head coach Lloyd Carr.

After winning the backup QB battle in fall camp, Carr was finally able to get on the field and get his first career snaps under his belt. Not only did he lead a touchdown drive, but he also threw his first career touchdown pass in the Maize and Blue to fellow freshman Salesi Moa, who also happened to be his first career touchdown catch.

So, it wasn't just a career drive for Carr, but Moa as well, possibly giving insight into a connection that could grow over the years as long as both players stay in Ann Arbor going forward.

EDGE Carter Meadows

Carter Meadows suited up for Michigan for the first time in his college career against UTEP after missing the first two games due to injury. While he didn't light up the stat sheet, Meadows did record a solo tackle as well as half a sack, his first of his career.

Meadows is just getting started at Michigan and was able to put some pressure on UTEP quarterback EJ Colson Jr. Going forward, don't be surprised to see Meadows take on more of a role on this Michigan defense that is firing on all cylinders.

RB Savion Hiter

Savion Hiter has been making plays for Michigan in the first two weeks, but against UTEP, he finally really broke out. Earlier this week, Hiter said that once he gets into a rhythm this season, he is going to be tough to stop, and the fans got a glimpse of that today.

Even with a fumble on his stat line, Hiter was one of the top performers for the Wolverines, leading the team in rushing with 62 yards, and not just his first career touchdown, but his second as well.

Hiter really took over the run game when Jordan Marshall left the game with what looked like a minor injury. Marshall seems to be good to go, but with a few aches and pains, Hiter could continue to take on a larger role for the Michigan offense.

This freshman group is a solid one, and with Whittingham willing to play them as much as he does, he is creating a bright future at Michigan, and if I say so myself, it could pay off big time.
