Ohio State revealed a JP Morgan Chase jersey patch this week, which only reinforces the point that one or more is likely coming for Michigan football, too.
It's easy money at a time when money is important. Schools need all the resources they can get. Michigan also spent $19 million on the investigation into the athletic department, as well as the buyout of Warde Manuel.
So the Wolverines could use some extra funds in the coffers. An easy way to do that is by allowing corporate partners to have a jersey patch. With that in mind, here are four companies that make sense for Michigan that fans should be more agreeable to.
Ford
Ford Motors would make all the sense in the world. The company is worth billions and generates billions in revenue each year.
It would be a perfect marriage. When people think of Michigan or Detroit, they think of Ford motors. The Wolverines would be partnering with a local company, and it would be an easy sell. Some fans still aren't going like it based on principle, but a Ford-Michigan partnership would make sense.
Ford already works with the school on a number of different projects. It seems like a no-brainer to have Ford be one of the brands on the jersey.
Carhartt
The clothing company is worth billions and would appeal to Michigan's fanbase. It would also fit with the Wolverines blue-collar style.
It's doesn't seem far-fetched to see Kyle Whittingham wearing a Carhartt sweatshirt on the sideline. The logo is iconic, so it would fit well with the iconic brand that is Michigan.
The company was also founded in Detroit.
Wolverine World Wide
Founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Wolverine World Wide is another billion-dollar company from the Wolverines' backyard. The company is most well-known for Wolverine Boots.
There have been some Michigan collabs over the years, so this would make sense. Wolverine World Wide partnering with the Wolverines feels like another perfect match. It supports blue-collar people, is from the state of Michigan, and both the school and company share an affiliation with the Wolverine.
Who says no?
Domino's Pizza
The pizza company was founded in Ypsilanti. Ann Arbor is where the corporate headquarters reside. People love football and pizza together.
It might be a great advertistement just to have the logo on the jersey patch. People will see the logo, and maybe order a pizza.
It feels like the logo would be easy to incorporate. Domino's Pizza is also a local company that fans probably wouldn't hate too much having its logo on the jersey.
If it helps Michigan win, it's hard to be against it. These companies at least have ties to Michigan.
