Just 30 minutes into the new season, and Michigan basketball was already breaking new records. Morez Johnson Jr. recorded a personal high with 20, while 69 points is the most that the Wolverines have ever scored in a first half since 1987. Trey McKenney was so hot that the lights went out to try and cool his momentum, but like Oakland's chances, nothing halted his impediment. Here are some of the takeaways from Monday's smooth win.
1. No top 25 team scored more points than Michigan on Monday night
Only eight Division one teams scored more than Michigan basketball in Monday night's season opener. Loyola Marymount topped the charts with a 137-point outburst in their victory. For Michigan, it was a total team effort. Seven players notched 11 or more points, and they matched a program record with 19 threes made.
Morez Johnson Jr. poured in a career high in his debut and so did Trey McKenney. Every Wolverine who's shoes were squeaking on the floor scored except for Malick Kordel. Aday Mara pitched in with his first double-double since March of this year. Winters Grady and L.J. Cason were scratches because of minor injuries.
