3 takeaways from another one of Michigan basketball's patented wins over USC

On a night where the home crowd welcomed its newest football coach to the maize and blue masses, Dusty May's well-oiled machine rolled another top 25 opponent by 30 points. Here are three takeaways from another routine Michigan basketball beating.

Morez Johnson Jr. has combined for 63 points in his last three outings

83% shooting from the field accounted for a career night for the Illinois transfer. He was the only Wolverine with more than 12 points and carried them on his back with Nimari Burnett and Yaxel Lendeborg nursing injuries. Without those two available, Michigan's bench outscored USC's starting lineup.

Dusty May has now won 80% of his games as head coach

40-10 is May's record in 50 games as Michigan's leader. Having Whittingham in attendance to witness that should make him want to get to work to standardize that on the gridiron as well. Besides the TCU and Wake Forest wins, every game has been uneven. Michigan basketball was 14-4 in games decided by six points or less in 2024. They are well on their way to match that win total on Tuesday against Penn State in what should be another comfy victory.

Bracketologists still project Michigan basketball as the No. 1 overall seed in most brackets

ESPN's Joe Lunardi, TeamRankings.com, Bleacher Report, Bracketologists.com, and many more sites firmly believe that the Wolverines are more deserving of the tournament's top seed than Arizona, Iowa State, and others. Being only two months away from the madness, Michigan basketball is nearing the halfway point of its schedule and the more they win, the more the chatter about losing fades.
