Sherrone Moore's offense sputtered to put points on the board in the first 30 minutes because of Wisconsin's relentless tenacity, but they came out of the locker room possessed to extend the lead. They could have scored more to cover, but you don't play to cover the spread. The defense was ruthless, enforcing seven punts in a row, followed by a turnover, before giving up for three. Below are some of the most amusing overreactions from Saturday's disengaging victory.
1. Pass interference should have been called on Rod Moore's interception
There was a lot of buzz about Jyaire Hill interfering with the Wisconsin receiver on the play and for good reason, but I'm going to tell you why this is an overreaction. First off the ball could have been ruled uncatchable, although that's unlikely, if Moore was not tracking it like a centerfielder. Secondly, Hill did make an attempt to look back at the football, even though it was a slight one, the ref did not reach for his flag.
Hill put his hands on the pass catcher, but let up once he got a sense of where the ball was going. Although we don't know for sure, Moore could have communicated with his teammates in the area during that sequence that he knew he was going to pick it off. Re-watching it over and over doesn't make it seem too obvious of an infraction, but one could say that I am being a bit biased in my judgement.
