So far, Michigan football has not felt the wrath of a coaching change that can tear apart your roster as it did to Iowa State. With most of his staff in place before the portal opens, Kyle Whittingham is giving his new players a chance to greet the coaches who he trusts to help keep them in Ann Arbor.
Some names on the roster can enter the portal, and it wouldn't be as devastating as, say, Michigan football losing its starting quarterback or receiver. These are three guys who should go portaling to find a match that fits them better.
Semaj Morgan-WR
Morgan's career in Ann Arbor has been a nightmare. He's never had more then 30 catches in a season, nor has he surpassed 250 yards recieving. In 13 games in 2025, he had drop, after drop, after drop and never returned a punt for a touchdown. Andrew Marsh proved in the Citrus bowl that he should have been the guy returning kicks all year, not Morgan.
Hudson Hollenbeck-Punter
Dominic Zvada's drop-off and Hollenbeck were a part of the reason that J.B. Brown got fired. Hollenbeck shanked a punt in the Ohio State loss for 11 yards, which resulted in a 50-yard touchdown pass two plays later for the Buckeyes. Michigan's special teams was third worst in the Big Ten. What's even more discouraging is that Kyle Whittingham's unit was at the bottom of Division 1 altogether. No wonder he is considering keeping ace recruiter Kerry Coombs on his staff.
Enow Etta-DT
When Etta enrolled at Michigan in 2023, many envisioned him to be the next Mason Graham or Kenneth Grant. That has never developed and instead of starting by his junior year like many before him, he was relegated to a reserve role. The good news for him is that Whittingham puts a priority on stopping the run and the roster at tackle is thinning out.
