2024 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction after Week 4
There is a saying that college football never disappoints and during Week 6 of the 2024 season, we were reminded how true that can be. Yes, it wasn't a great week for Michigan football fans.
They had to watch the Wolverines lose a national championship rematch against Washington. Michigan football, which was ranked 10th and projected to make the 12-team playoff by us and others, took a free fall in the polls this week.
Michigan football changed quarterbacks during the game and went to Jack Tuttle. He helped the Wolverines take the lead, 17-14, before Washington scored 13 in the fourth quarter to win the game.
It wasn't the biggest upset last Saturday though. That was No. 1 Alabama losing to Vanderbilt one week after it beat Georgia. Missouri also lost to Texas A&M, and Tennessee, another top-5 team, lost to Arkansas.
That changed a lot in the College Football Playoff race. But, Alabama and Georgia can still afford another loss and still make the 12-team field. Week 7 features Ohio State vs. Oregon. There's also Texas against Georgia.
All of those teams should make the playoff. These games might determined where they are seeded, which makes them less important than in the past, but still pretty important in the grand scheme of things.
As far as Michigan football, since this is a Wolverines website, it's likely going to have to win out to make the 12-team College Football Playoff. A 9-3 record with a win over Ohio State might get them in, but we haven't seen anything to suggest that's going to happen.
