There were some positive transfer portal developments for Michigan football on Monday and we catch you up on everything.

For the second straight offseason, it appears that Michigan football is going to be very active in adding talent from the transfer portal.

It worked out tremendously this season for the Wolverines and seven transfers became full-time starters. James Turner, the clutch kicker, was one of those guys.

There were also two starters added to the offensive line, as well as Ernest Hausmann, who is going to pay even more dividends next season.

Michigan football might not be throwing money at guys at high school recruiting, but the NIL is working well for the guys that produce, plus you can see all the players Michigan is sending to the NFL. That’s not an accident.

At any rate, there were some positive transfer portal updates on Monday for Michigan football and we’ll start with defensive back Upton Stout, formerly of Western Kentucky. He took a visit to USC but was in Ann Arbor on Monday.

The Wolverines have taken over as the leader according to the On3 prediction machine. Since Stout is likely being recruited to take over the nickel spot — a highly productive position — it’s easy to see why the 5-foot-9 defender would want to jump at the chance.

Despite his size, he’s been highly productive and has five interceptions over the past two seasons. He also broke up eight passes this season and had a defensive touchdown. (Sound familiar?)

Another transfer portal target to visit Michigan football

The Wolverines were projected to land transfer portal linebacker Jaishawn Barham from Maryland earlier this week, but another defender will visit U-M in Penn defensive tackle Joey Slackman, the No. 3 defensive lineman in the transfer portal.

Slackman would be a solid addition up front. He’s 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, and has 20 scholarship offers. Kris Jenkins is headed to the NFL so Slackman could help fill the void left by him and Cam Goode.

Michigan is also after a wide receiver, potentially a quarterback, and a running back, but things are still developing. Yet, with Stout, Slackman, and Barham, U-M seems to be in a good spot.
