3 obstacles Michigan football faces versus Alabama
Michigan defense vs the mobility of Jalen Milroe
The Michigan football defense has been tenacious on the field against their opponents this season. Their physical style of play has stockpiled sacks while forcing turnovers. But they have not faced a quarterback with the athleticism of Jalen Milroe.
For comparison, quarterback Drew Allar of Penn State tallied 49 rushing yards and scored a rushing touchdown versus Michigan football this year. Milroe has two games where he rushed for over 100 yards this season.
Milroe also has 12 rushing touchdowns. His speed and vision pose an immediate threat to any defense. Michigan has to do a few things defensively to deny Milroe positive running plays throughout the game. The first is gap control on the defensive line; the front seven has to bring pressure frequently while blocking the running lanes.
The Wolverines cannot run the same defensive schemes throughout the game. Mix up the blitzes and coverages each quarter. Confuse Jalen Milroe into making bad decisions that could lead to turnover opportunities. Having a QB spy for continuous periods of this game also negates explosive running plays. Force Milroe to be one-dimensional.
