Michigan football, Ohio State among ‘top contenders’ for Dante Moore
Michigan football has emerged as one of the top contenders for five-star quarterback Dante Moore, but Ohio State and others are in the mix too.
For the second year in a row, Michigan football is being aggressive in the transfer portal. The Wolverines haven’t made any additions yet, but they aren’t resting on their laurels.
Not only has Michigan football offered a couple of different defenders, as well as a former Indiana wide receiver, but the Wolverines have also been in contact with former five-star quarterback Dante Moore.
Moore is from Detroit and signed with UCLA in the 2023 class. He was committed to Oregon at one point and Michigan football was a constant in his recruitment.
Yet, the Bruins were able to win Moore’s commitment. But after an up-and-down season at UCLA, Moore has entered the transfer portal. According to Chad Simmons of On3.com, Michigan football is among the top contenders along with Ohio State, Miami, and Oregon.
"“Four schools are likely to get visits from Moore in the next few weeks: Michigan, Ohio State, Miami and Oregon. He is currently finishing up his finals in Westwood, but could take visits beginning as soon as this weekend. Nothing has been set yet though, a source close to the quarterback added.”"
What it means for Michigan football
Oregon has been connected with Dillon Gabriel. However, as Moore has told multiple reporters, including Simmons, he isn’t looking for a guaranteed starting job next season.
That’s why Michigan football could be an ideal fit. Moore could have the chance to sit behind J.J. McCarthy if the junior decides to return for his senior season. If not, then Moore could take his shot at being the Wolverines starting quarterback in 2024.
Miami and Ohio State are teams to watch. I have always worried about the Buckeyes getting Dante Moore, but they are also pushing for Cameron Ward. Miami seems to be in the mix for just about every top transfer quarterback.
Michigan football has been in contact with Moore since he hit the transfer portal. A visit would be a good sign and it sounds like a decision will come in the next few weeks.
