For the second time this week Michigan basketball scored 90 plus and won convincingly over a mid-major who won their regular season conference title last season.

A 17-0 run for Michigan basketball that started late in the first half was the turning point on Friday inside Crisler. Olivier Nkamhoua notched a double-double and didn’t miss from the field, although he didn’t score a basket in the final 15 minutes. He’s got a handful of dunks through two contests, mostly thanks to his teammate Dug McDaniel. The two of them are running the offense to a tee thus far.

Here are three of the takeaways from the victory.

1. The cheese man shredded the Penguins

When Nkamhoua went quiet, Will Tschetter took over the show. He was perfect on the night. Through the first two games, he’s topped his three-point total from last year alone. The rest of the bench had 17, while Tschetter outdid them all with 20. His previous high was 7, which he did twice during his freshman campaign.

Tschetter is shooting 100% from deep and the energy he brings to this team is immeasurable. He was able to give Tarris Reed a lengthy rest after he came into the opener questionable on the injury report. Believe it or not, Tschetter is tied for third in scoring with Terrance Williams following the opening week of play.

Until Jaelin Llewellyn is ready to roll, guys like Tschetter and Tray Jackson have to step up if they want to remain with a zero in the loss column. Games like these will help Tschetter’s development for what is next on the schedule. He’ll continue to be a fan favorite for his effort on the plays that don’t get all the headlines like loose balls and taking charges.
