Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy looks to throw against Michigan State during the first quarter on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing. /

Can J.J. McCarthy keep the Heisman campaign rolling?

The dominant performance by J.J. McCarthy in the Michigan State game certainly put him in the Heisman conversation. He was the betting favorite following that win.

McCarthy threw for 276 yards and four touchdowns. There were three touchdowns in the first half alone and some incredible throws that only a first-round pick could make

The touchdown pass from McCarthy to Colston Loveland — the second one — was an absolute dart and reminded me of Aaron Rodgers.

Purdue ranks last in the Big Ten in scoring defense, allowing 30 points per game. The Boilermakers are allowing passers to complete just 54.9 percent of their passes but Purdue ranks 13th in the Big Ten in touchdown passes allowed (14th). They are also 11th in passing yards allowed, so McCarthy should have a good night on Saturday night.
