Experience at point guard

Ever since the graduation of Zavier Simpson, Michigan basketball had a revolving door at point guard, which finally stopped last season with Dug McDaniel.

There were some growing pains. Dug also had some great moments such as his 18-point, four-rebound, four-assist, zero-turnover effort in a win over Michigan State.

Dug averaged 8.6 points and 3.6 assists last season. He shot 35.5 percent from 3-point range and 76.8 percent from the free-throw line. He mentioned shooting more 3-pointers this season, because last year, he had a tendency to take long 2s.

Overall, his efficiency will need to improve. He was a 38-percent shooter from the field last season, but he played 30 minutes a game and that experience will be invaluable.

This Michigan team will likely go as Dug goes.

If he’s one of the best point guards in the Big Ten this season, which he could be, Michigan is probably a tournament team. If not, it could be back in the NIT.
