A clean game from McCarthy

Minnesota has put together three consecutive nine-win seasons — at least in the last three full seasons — in large part because of its ability to force takeaways.

The Gophers have forced two takeaways per game so far in 2023. Minnesota also has a total of eight interceptions which is something to watch in this matchup for Michigan football.

J.J. McCarthy has been flawless for most of the year. He certainly was last Saturday against Nebraska and that’s what Michigan needs on Saturday night. McCarthy doesn’t have to be superhuman, but he does need to protect the ball.

A big positive is that Michigan football is second in sacks allowed for the 2023 season, so McCarthy shouldn’t be under much pressure, even though Minnesota has 11 sacks to its credit.
