J.J. McCarthy pitched a near-perfect game

As I wrote in the gut reactions, it’s funny that people were doubting J.J. McCarthy a couple of weeks ago. The kid is cold as ice and picked apart the Huskers on Saturday.

It helps to have one of the best offensive lines in college football, but McCarthy finished with a QBR of 99.2. He was nearly perfect. McCarthy completed 15-of-19 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a 21-yard touchdown and adding 30 yards on the ground.

McCarthy’s numbers aren’t eye-popping. He didn’t throw six touchdowns but that’s just not the way Michigan football works. They are going to run the ball, execute, and win the game.

But no quarterback looked more ready for the NFL on Saturday than McCarthy. He’s just got things on auto-pilot. Nearly every throw is perfect. Just about every decision is perfect and McCarthy is having exactly the kind of season Michigan needed him to have.

He’s the real deal, just like this Michigan football team.
