Michigan football landed a top class of transfers in 2023 and the Athletic ranked three new Wolverines in the top 35 of their portal rankings.

Heading into the 2023 Michigan football season, the expectations are sky high, and part of that is the insane amount of talent the Wolverines have.

Jim Harbaugh has gone on record and said he believes that Michigan football will break the NFL draft record that Georgia set in 2023 and some NFL draft experts have said that’s actually realistic.

One reason for that is the insane transfer portal haul of Michigan this offseason. It wasn’t a huge number of transfers like Colorado or anything, but the quality was about as good as it gets.

Michigan football transfer class has three top-ranked players

Whether it’s been 247 Sports or On3.com, Mchigan football has been rated as having a stellar transfer portal haul. Now the Athletic has joined the mix with three Wolverines ranking among their top 35 of total transfers.

Drake Nugent, a center that has come on strong in fall camp, is expected to be the starter for the Wolverines next Saturday against East Carolina. He’s ranked a the No. 6 overall transfer by The Athletiic, which is smart, because Nugent is going to make a big impact this season. Some have even suggested that he could be the Wolverines best offensive lineman.

Josaiah Stewart is another transfer that’s going to make an instant impact for U-M this fall. The Wolverines need their pass rush to be better. Braiden McGregor and Jaylen Harrel, as well as Derrick Moore should be better this season, but Stewart should help too.

Stewart has had a double-digit sack season already for Coastal Carolina and is ranked 24th via the Athletic. Josh Wallace, the cornerback added this summer from UMass, also made the list as No. 35 which shows what a good addition the cornerback could be.

Wallace was in a battle to start at cornerback with Amorion Walker and others. However, like Nugent, he’s emerged as the clear starter.

Stewart might not be the starter but he’s going to get plenty of pass-rushing opportunities and he’s got a chance to be another Michigan pass rusher drafted early.
