More and more pundits are picking Michigan football to win the national championship in 2023, and also to make the College Football playoff again.

Michigan football didn’t have a game this past weekend, but it was the start of the college football season with Week 0.

That meant there was “College Gameday” for the first time and Desmond Howard, the Michigan football legend, was among the TV personalities who made picks for the playoff and the national championship game.

Desmond picked Michigan football to win the national title and beat Alabama in order to do it. He also has Texas making the playoff so we’ll see.

Michigan football will see the Longhorns in 2024 anyway, since they are scheduled to come to Ann Arbor. It would be insane if the two teams met in the College Football Playoff. Even if both made the playoff and didn’t square off, it would make for a great matchup.

Ohio State also didn’t make the playoff in Howard’s prediction. However, Rece Davis also projected a playoff field that only had one SEC and one Big Ten participant.

On3 projections by J.D. Pickell have Wolverines in the playoff too

J.D. Pickell believes that Michigan football will make the national title game. He’s got the Wolverines No. 2 in his playoff projection, with Georgia at No. 1. Here’s what the On3 analyst said about Michigan’s chances in 2023:

"“Yeah ECU the first game of the year. They should handle business. Top returning production. I understand Jim Harbaugh’s not coaching the first three games, I’m not worried about that. I don’t think anybody’s worried about that. Especially in Ann Arbor. They got extra fuel to the fire. Defense embodies what they’re about. Allowed 16 points a game last year. They bring back a lot of those cats, like I was just talking about. They’re gonna run the football, they’re going to be physical, best backfield in the country.”"

Michigan’s offensive line should be in the running for the Joe Moore Award again and Blake Corum sounds like he could be even better than before.

On top of all that, Michigan football has a roster with over 20 guys that could get drafted in 2024 and that’s not hyperbole. That list doesn’t even include Will Johnson or Colston Loveland who are sophomores.

We’ll see if the predictions prove to be true, but soon, we can stop wondering what will happen in 2023 and find out what happens on the field.
