J.J. McCarthy receiving most Heisman Trophy bets

J.J. McCarthy led the Michigan offense to a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff, now many are counting on McCarthy to achieve another lofty goal.

McCarthy has been the most bet on player at BetMGM to win the Heisman Trophy. The Michigan signal caller is +1800 to be the first Michigan player to win the Heisman since Charles Woodson in 1997 and the fourth in school history.

McCarthy completed nearly 65% for over 2,700 passing yards with a glowing 22-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. The freshman quarterback added five touchdowns on the ground as well.

Now, the Wolverines have McCarthy back and a host of weapons as the offense looks to reach new heights with a ton of continuity, including both stud running backs in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.

The case for McCarthy is there, as he is sure to have the efficient stats and team success to be in the conversation, but he must up his output in order to make it to New York.

The Heisman Trophy likely goes to player with gaudy stats and team success. Take last year’s winner, USC’s Caleb Williams.

He passed for over 4,500 yards and added 52 total touchdowns for a Trojans Team that finished the season 13-3. McCarthy will need better numbers to keep up with the high powered quarterbacks across the country, but that’s not stopping bettors from jumping on the bandwagon.
