In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football kicks off fall camp, Big Ten expansion talk heads up, and more.

We are closing in on the start of the 2023 Michigan football season and another milestone was reached on Wednesday as the Michigan Wolverines opened fall camp.

Players arrived for fall camp on Tuesday and hit the field on Wednesday afternoon. Michigan football doesn’t allow the media to attend any portion of practice, so there’s not a lot of information on the first day of practice, but it’s still great t have the team back on the field.

And while Michigan football doesn’t allow much media access, the Michigan Wolverines did put out some photos on social media of the first practice.

There was some Michigan football news as the Wolverines released their updated 2023 roster. There were some major weight changes but here are a few notables pointed out by Seth Fisher of mgoblog.com.

Big Ten expansion talk heats up

There has been lots of talk about conference realignment in recent weeks. The Big Ten hasn’t gotten back into the expansion talk yet, but it looks like that’s changing according to Dan Wetzel.

Wetzel reported that the Big Ten presidents are talking about expansion and that Washington and Oregon are two targets that will be discussed.

I’ve said since day one that Oregon and Washington are the next logical moves. Stanford and Cal have been talked about too. That would ease up travel on USC and UCLA.

The Big Ten probably wants to get to 20 teams. For Michigan football, at this point, it is what it is. College football is headed to even bigger super conferences and before long, we’ll probably have 4-5 leagues of 20 and that’s it.

It will be interesting to see what happens and how it will impact the Michigan Wolverines, but the Big Ten isn’t finished making changes. That I can just about guarantee.
