Michigan Football: Busy recruiting week upcoming for Wolverines
In this article, I analyze the upcoming week in Michigan football recruiting and some of the biggest things to watch out for during that week.
For Michigan football recruiting, the next one to two weeks could dictate how the class finishes. A stellar finish could propel the 2024 class, which currently ranks at number four, back into the top three.
Michigan football is still in pursuit of a handful of top-100 prospects, with a few nearing decision days.
BBQ at the Big House
Michigan football will host top 100 safety target Zaquan Patterson at the annual BBQ at the Big House this weekend. Michigan is doing a tremendous job in this recruitment and has a legitimate shot
. It looks like a Michigan vs Miami battle, for the Florida kid. Considering Miami’s NIL-friendly approach, Michigan football will have to knock this one out of the park.
Chris Ewald Jr, a teammate of Patterson and elite 2025 commit, will also be in attendance amongst a flurry of other commits and underclassmen recruits.
Being around commits will be very helpful for Michigan, as Patterson will see the guys who would be his teammates if he were to commit.
This is definitely one to watch, as Michigan football could make a run for the lead.
Aaron Scott Commitment
Aaron Scott is set to commit on July 30th, less than a week away. There have been almost no new developments since Scott announced his commitment date in early July. Both Michigan football and Ohio State continue to push.
Ohio State is the perceived favorite and likely the safe pick, but Scott has acknowledged that Michigan is the best fit for him scheme-wise, and loves the thought of playing next to Will Johnson. Michigan has thrown the kitchen sink at Scott, with everybody recruiting him — including Charles Woodson.
Scott has said that it’s possible he would visit the campus he commits to on the 30th, but is unsure. Considering Michigan football will have tons of recruits visiting on the 30th, a Scott visit would be more than welcome.
This one is still far too close to call. If I had to make a pick, it would be Ohio State. Not because of any news, but because the past three weeks, everybody around him has likely been praising Ohio State and bashing Michigan. That’s why it’s so hard to win over Ohio kids.
I won’t be surprised if it’s Ohio State, but I also won’t be surprised if it’s Michigan. It’s more likely that it’s Ohio State, but you never know in the world of recruiting.
Gatlin Bair visiting Boise State, committing on August 5th
Elite wide receiver Gatlin Bair is set to go on a multi-day visit to Boise State, followed almost immediately by an August 5th commitment. Bair wants his recruitment to be wrapped up before his senior season.
Michigan football is the perceived leader at the moment, but Boise State is the hometown team and they’re getting the last visit. That sets them up nicely. They’re going to preach that Bair could be the hometown hero, which Michigan cannot say.
I think that Michigan is going to hold on and pull off a massive victory here. While they can’t change their proximity to Idaho, Michigan checks off every other box, including some that Boise State cannot check.
Bair knows that if he wants to play in the NFL, Michigan is going to give him a better shot. He knows he’ll be competing for championships every year at Michigan. While the visit to Boise State is something to be concerned about, I think Michigan will end up winning Bair.
Conclusion
After nearly a month with little to no news, things are finally ramping up as we approach the start of fall camp. Michigan will have a chance to put an exclamation mark on its 2024 class, and I’d expect them to land at least one of these three recruits.
Top 100 recruits are extremely hard to land, so it’ll be a huge win as long as the Wolverines can land one. They’ve put themselves in excellent positions with all of them, so it’s just a matter of waiting now.
Keep an eye out for news regarding these three, and Go Blue!
