Sometimes ratings get it right, other times not so much

Michigan football currently has 25 commits in their 2024 class, with 17 being four stars and the rest three stars. Stars are usually talked about the most. All schools, Michigan included, want the highest-rated kids possible.

However, stars are not everything. Michigan football has a knack for discovering diamonds in the rough. Look at Ronnie Bell, Mason Graham, Rod Moore, Blake Corum, David Ojabo, Mike Morris, DJ Turner, and so many more. Michigan seems to find stars where nobody else can.

With that being said, I believe there are multiple of those stars in the 2024 class that are currently committed. Players who may not have the highest ranking, but who I believe can be All-American level players. Let’s dive right into it.

Linebacker Cole Sullivan

The first linebacker on this list, Sullivan is currently ranked as the #561 player in the nation, per 247Sports. I think that is criminally underrated. At 6’3 200lbs, Sullivan has a great frame and is fast and physical. In Ben Herbert’s weight room, Sullivan is going to have an opportunity to become a star.

Sullivan is an extremely hard worker by all accounts and doesn’t lack athleticism at all as you would typically expect in a three-star linebacker.

My gut tells me that much of Sullivan’s low ranking can be attributed to a lack of showcases/publicity. Those events are where a lot of recruits soar in the rankings.

Michigan football was able to swoop in on Sullivan and win his commitment without much struggle. Teams like Notre Dame, Duke, and Michigan State were vying for his services, but the Wolverines were able to defeat them swiftly.

Returning linebackers coach Chris Partridge is an excellent recruiter and evaluator of talent. I love what I’ve seen from Sullivan, and think he can develop into a star at Michigan. I can see him being similar to Tommy Eichenberg at Ohio State.
