Michigan football is the preseason #1 team in the country for College Gameday host, Rece Davis. Davis appeared on The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday.

The case is there for Michigan football to be the preseason #1 considering they are back-to-back Big Ten Championships and are bringing back arguably the top running back in the country, Blake Corum.

Not to mention quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who led the Wolverines to their first win over Ohio State in Columbus since 2000, is back. Running back Donovan Edwards is also back and can be considered one of the best backs in the country to go along with Blake Corum.

The Wolverines have reloaded both the offensive and defensive lines with additions from their recruiting class and the transfer portal. There are minor question marks on the defensive side of the ball, but there is a lot of talent that begs the optimism card.

Here is what Davis had to say on The Paul Finebaum Show.

"“Well, because it’s in the state of Michigan, they’re asking me if Michigan is going to win the national championship … and at least to start the season, and I believe ranking should be very fluid early. I’m going to have Michigan No. 1 in the preseason.”“My biggest reason is they are one of the few contenders who have enough everywhere else and a proven quarterback who I believe is going to be much better. He was already good, but I think he’s going to take a giant step forward, J.J. McCarthy this upcoming season.”“But at least to start, Michigan has offensive linemen and they’ve added to it through the transfer portal. I think they’ll be good enough on defense, they also helped themselves with a pass rusher on defense, McCarthy and obviously they have two terrific running backs.”“But McCarthy’s the big thing to me. He is potentially an elite player. And if he can take that next step, then I think that gives Michigan a chance."

Everyone in the country can see how good Michigan could be this upcoming season. The Wolverines have had their season end in the College Football Playoff Semifinal the last two seasons and they are determined to get over the speed bump this season.

Jim Harbaugh has recently introduced a “Beat Georgia” segment to practices in order to be prepared for the College Football Playoff.

Michigan could very well end up as the preseason #1 team in the country, but it’s not how you start, it’s about how you finish, and the Wolverines are all in to finish on top.
