Michigan football got a key expert projection on Sunday for a blue-chip offensive line target in the 2024 class.

It’s been a weird weekend for Michigan football recruiting. The Wolverines landed a talented running back on Saturday but missed out on two four-star defenders on the same day.

One of those was four-star linebacker Aaron Chiles. He’s out of Maryland and Michigan football was viewed as the leader going into his visit. People can blame NIL or whatever, but what’s done is done.

The Wolverines could still host him for a visit this weekend. I wouldn’t expect that to happen but if it does, it will tell me that Michigan football still has a shot.

Despite the bad news, Michigan football hosted a number of official visitors over the weekend and some of the other 2024 commitments started posting things that led you to believe there was a commitment or at least something really positive.

A good sign for Michigan football recruiting

It might be connected and it might not, but EJ Holland of The Wolverine is now projecting four-star offensive tackle Michael Uini to the Wolverines.

Uini is 6-foot7, 275 pounds and he’s out of Copperas Cove, Texas. Uini is also ranked 149th overall via the On3 Industry rankings and is the No. 9 offensive tackle via On3.

Following his official visit and the projection by Holland, Michigan football has a 77 percent chance to land Uini.

This projection is a really good thing for Michigan football but it doesn’t mean that this recruitment is over. Georgia is getting the next official visit which will be this coming weekend. Alabama is also going to host the four-star tackle for a mid-week visit, so it’s far from finished.

We also saw with Chiles what can happen when Michigan football goes up against an SEC team with a strong NIL program. The Wolverines still have to prove they can win those recruiting battles. It helps that Uini is an offensive lineman.

Michigan is elite in that area, and since they are also in the mix for Bennett Warren, things are looking really good in terms of the offensive line recruiting board.
