Another top target is set to decide on Saturday as 2024 Michigan football recruit Boo Carter will announce his commitment.

A few weeks ago, it seemed like a Boo Carter commitment to Tennessee was all but a done deal. However, that was before Michigan football hosted Carter for an official visit and blew him away.

Most official visits are a positive experience. But it really seemed like Michigan football might have given itself a chance to land Carter with the official visit.

Yet, Carter, who has been projected to Tennessee via the crystal ball projections and the On3 prediciton machine, took a mid-week visit to the Vols, which should make Michigan football fans feel even less confident about where the Wolverines stand.

Carter is set to announce his commitment on Saturday night at 8 PM EST and here’s what Chad Simmons of On3.com wrote ahead of the announcement by the 4-star athlete:

"“This looked to be all Vols a couple of months ago, but the Wolverines have to be considered a threat, “He will announce his commitment on June 17. Carter is expected back in Knoxville later this week for one more visit before his decision.”"

Does Michigan football have any chance with Boo Carter?

Carter did wind up taking the visit to Tennessee that Simmons mentioned and there haven’t been any crystal ball flips in the favor of Michigan football.

That doesn’t mean that Carter couldn’t surprise people and commit to the Wolverines or somewhere else on Saturday night. Oregon and Colorado are also in the mix.

It just seems really unlikely at this point. Michigan football did a good job of getting itself back into the mix. Carter is ranked 207th overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings and it was worth battling until the very end.

In fact, I’m sure Michigan football will keep recruiting him all the way to the buzzer in an effort to flip a kid they see as a two-way athlete. Or, the Wolverines might invest resources elsewhere.

As things stand right now, my money is on Tennessee to land Boo Carter’s commitment.
