It’s an important weekend for Michigan basketball in more ways than one and here are three thoughts on the Wolverines transfer portal pursuits.

It has been a wild offseason for Michigan basketball. Whether it was Hunter Dickinson, Caleb Love, or the transfer portal craziness, it has been anything but dull for the Wolverines.

However, as we sit here in June, Michigan basketball still doesn’t know what the final roster will look like. There are three scholarships available and a lot of work to do.

I know we’ve talked about Olivier Nkamhoua ad nausea, but the former Tennessee transfer who scored 22 points in an NCAA tournament win over Duke, has finally made his visit to Michigan.

Nkamhoua made trips to Kansas State and West Virginia last week. According to Joe Tipton, he’s also expected to visit Baylor after seeing the Wolverines.

This is obviously a must-land transfer for Michigan. There are some options at guard, and on the wing — those are important too. But Nkamhoua is the No. 1 target on the board and here are some thoughts going into this weekend on the transfer portal.

Nkamhoua is a must for Michigan basketball

Ideally, Nkamhoua would never make the trip to Baylor, because the Wolverines lock up his commitment this weekend.

I have no idea if that’s possible or if Michigan baskeball even has the NIL capability of winning this recruitment, but that’s the objective.

Tipton said a decision could come on Sunday or Monday but that it could be delayed. The trip to Baylor would certainly seem to delay the decision. That makes me think there’s a chance this could be over this weekend.

Michigan really does seem like an ideal fit for Nkamhoua. Juwan Howard would help him improve his draft stock and he’d have a chance to be a go-to guy for the Wolverines. His defense and his ability to score are essential for Michigan, so we’ll see what happens.

Keep your fingers crossed though as there isn’t another four-man capable of making the impact Nkamhoua can make and Michigan desperately needs that.
