Michigan Wolverines news: A historic win for tennis, a transfer target for Michigan football, and more
Michigan Wolverines tennis player Ondrej Styler advanced to the singles national title match, Michigan football contacts a transfer, and more.
It was a historic day for the Michigan Wolverines on the tennis court as Ondrej Styler continued his spectacular run in the NCAA men’s singles tournament.
On Thursday, Styler became the first Michigan Wolveriners player to advance to the national semifinals in over 35 years and after a win in straight sets on Friday, Styler will play for the men’s national championship Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
If Styler is able to win the national title, it would be the first time since Michael Leach, who won the singles title back in 1982.
Michigan Wolverines stay alive in baseball
There is a long way to go for the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten tournament, but Michigan is one of four teams still alive after beating second-seeded Indiana by a score of 13-6 on Friday.
Mitch Voit earned the win in his first career start and now, Michigan will need to beat Iowa twice on Saturday to reach the championship game. The first matchup starts at 9 a.m.
Michigan baseball is facing elimination, while the Hawkeyes, who defeated the Wolverines 13-3 in the first-round matchup, get two chances to advance. Maryland is the undefeated team on the other side of the bracket. Nebraska would need to beat the Terps twice to advance.
Michigan football offers new transfer cornerback
It’s not a huge secret that Michigan football has wanted to add some depth at cornerback and on Friday, the Wolverines offered former UMass cornerback Josh Wallace.
Wallace played for former Michigan football defensive coordinator Don Brown and the cousin of linebackers coach Chris Partridge is also on staff for the Minutemen.
There are ties to Michigan and Wallace has played more than 2,200 snaps during his career. He’s 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, and was really solid last season with 42 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, and eight pass breakups.
For his career, Wallace has 24 career pass breakups which would give Michigan football another solid addition to the cornerback room to go along with talented youngsters such as Amorion Walker, Jyaire Hill, Myles Pollard, Ja’Den McBurrows, and others.
Oklahoma, Penn State, and Michigan State have all offered at this point. Yet, the ties to the Wolverines are obvious and so is the chance to play for a national title contender.
