Michigan Wolverines news: 9 players selected in NFL draft, Jim Harbaugh milestone, and more
Nine Michigan football players were selected in the 2023 NFL draft, Jim Harbaugh meets a milestone with the Michigan Wolverines and more.
When the 2023 NFL draft was all said and done, the Michigan football program had nine players selected, which was third among college football teams.
Only Georgia and Alabama, with 11 and 10 respectively, had more players selected than the Michigan Wolverines and I don’t see that trend changing a whole lot.
Five players total were selected on Sunday. The most notable was probably Brad Robbins to the Bengals, simply because it made it so the Michigan Wolverines had their punter and kicker selected, which doesn’t happen often.
Ronnie Bell went to the 49ers, Ryan Hayes went to Miami, Mike Morris and Olu Oluwatimi were both drafted by the Seahawks and then Moody went to the Bengals.
As it happened, Seattle, San Francisco, and Cincinnati each drafted two Michigan Wolverines players over the weekend.
With a first-round pick for the fifth straight year too, Michigan football is putting together an impressive NFL draft record under Jim Harbaugh.
In fact, with the selection of Robbins, Harbaugh has now had one Michigan football player at every single position drafted during his tenure. It’s incredible and the Michigan Wolverines still have a very bright future.
Gemon Green signs with New York Giants
One Michigan football player that didn’t get drafted on Saturday was cornerback Gemon Green. I’m a little surprised but it didn’t take long for him to get an NFL opportunity as the New York Giants signed him as a rookie free agent.
Green (6-foot-2, 181) started the past two years for the Michigan Wolverines and had 12 career pass breakups, but just one interception. He struggled to play the ball at times but really grew over his last two seasons and I feel like he’s got a fighting chance to crack the 53-man roster or at least make the practice squad for the G-Men.
Former Michigan Wolverines in NBA playoffs
There are still two former Michigan Wolverines still standing in the NBA playoffs and both have games on Sunday. Jordan Poole and the Warriors will travel to Sacramento for Game 7.
The Warriors, who are the defending NBA champs, were routed by 19 points on their home floor in Game 6, an elimination game, so now they have to try and close it out on the road.
Golden State and Sacramento wil tip things off at 3:30 PM EST. The winner advances to the second round of the playoffs to take on the Lakers.
Duncan Robinson and the Heat are already in the second round, the Eastern Conference semis, after ousting the No. 1 seed Milwaukee in five games. Robinson shot 73 percent from 3-point range in the first round and we’ll see how much he plays in this series.
As long as he keeps making shots, you’d think Robinson would keep coming off the bench. At any rate, it’s Heat-Knicks for a spot in the East Finals and it should be a fun seven-game series.
My money is on Miami simply because of Jimmy Butler. It should be a fun series though and Game 1 starts at 1 PM EST in the Garden.
