Michigan football lost another talented recruit from the 2022 class in Damani Dent who is the latest Wolverine to hit the transfer portal.

Another Michigan football player put his name in the transfer portal on Thursday and this time, it was former three-star safety commitment Damani Dent.

Dent was one of the latest additions to the 2022 recruiting class. He was a guy that picked up a ton of recruiting attention late in the cycle.

Michigan football was battling Oregon, Florida, and Miami down the stretch but the No. 911 player overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings, who signed with the Wolverines and seemed to have a bright future.

The future for Dent is still bright and I have no doubt that he will land on his feet. The safety room is just really stacked which is why this move probably makes sense.

Reacting to the transfer of Damani Dent

You wish that everyone would stick it out, but also, there are only so many scholarships and the truth is that Michigan football needs to shred scholarships before fall camp.

R.J. Moten also transferred from the safety room earlier this spring, which indicates just how deep things are. What made things even more difficult for Dent is that Keon Sabb and Zeke Berry were both ahead of Dent, but also signed as part of the 2022 class.

The path to the field was going to be difficult. It could have been done, but now Dent can get a fresh start somewhere else. You’d think some schools from Florida would be in the mix, but if any teams need a defensive back, Dent could be a good get this late.

Dent has four years of eligibility and didn’t play in any games last season, but had 65 tackles and four interceptions as a high school senior. The 5-foot-11, 196-pounder out of Jacksonville could be a valuable addition to another program, even if I wish he had stuck around with the Wolverines.
