Michigan baseball dropped two of three against Rutgers this weekend and here’s our recap of the Wolverines’ weekend series.

The Michigan baseball team was on the road against Rutgers this weekend and thanks to some weather issues on Saturday, the Wolverines played 1.5 games on Sunday.

When it was all said and done, Michigan baseball managed to win just one of three games against the Scarlet Knights. The opening game of the series was a disaster for the Wolverines.

Connor O’Halloran got the start for Michigan but lasted just one inning as the Scarlet Knights eventually beat Michigan by a score of 13-0.

In the second game of the series, it seemed like things might go the same way for Michigan baseball and Rutgers jumped out to a 6-0 advantage.

However, things started to turn around and just before the game was stopped on Saturday for a weather delay, Ted Burton blasted a three-run home run to tie the score at 6-6.

Michigan and Rutgers paused the game until Sunday morning and right away, Joe Longo put the Wolverines in front thanks to a two-run home run.

O’Halloran, after pitching just one inning on Friday, showed why he’s become the regular Friday starter for Michigan baseball by tossing six solid innings. He gave up three hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out seven to earn his sixth win of the season in the 13-8 come-from-behind victory for Michigan.

On Sunday, U-M got off to another slow start. Noah Rennard was on the mound for the Wolverines but lasted just more than three innings after giving up six runs.

Rutgers eventually build a 6-0 advantage, which was actually the third straight game in which the Scarlet Knights did that. Jack Van Remortel doubled in two runs but it wasn’t enough as the Wolverines dropped the game 6-3.

Michigan is now 19-16 overall and 7-5 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines’ next game will be on Tuesday against Toledo before hosting Michigan State for a three-game set next weekend.
