There are plenty of teams interested in Hunter Dickinson, but is there still a chance he returns to Michigan Basketball?

Michigan basketball fans are wondering what the next move is going to be because it seems very likely that the Wolverines aren’t done with transfer portal additions.

But every Michigan basketball is probably wondering about one name specifically in the transfer portal and that’s Hunter Dickinson.

I shouldn’t say every Michigan basketball fan because I know plenty or have seen their social media posts saying that they don’t want him back. For one, I bet that tune would change if Dickinson suddenly returned.

Two, winning heals everything so if the Wolverines won next season, fans would get past Dickinson flirting in the portal (and quickly too). Players are allowed to return to their previous program and while it doesn’t happen often, it has happened with a big-name center in the Big Ten.

Kofi Cockburn tested things out in the transfer portal and everyone thought he was going to wind up at Kentucky before he returned to Illinois. The same thing could happen here.

Kentucky is actually in the mix for Dickinson too but the two biggest threats, according to Chris Balas of The Wolverine, are Kansas and Maryland.

Is a return to Michigan basketball possible?

Dickinson has strong ties to the Maryland staff now that a former high school coach is an assistant.

Kansas is also making a strong push. The Jayhawks aren’t afraid to play the NIL game either and if Dickinson wants a shot at a national title and a big payday that might be his best option.

However, Michigan is still in contact with Dickinson and the Wolverines just landed Caleb Love, one of the top players in the transfer portal, so the NIL game has to be better. Nimari Burnett and Tray Jackson were solid pickups too.

There has been chatter about another transfer from Tennessee and I’d be all for that too. But if Dickinson returned, this team would look like a contender again, at least on paper.

A lot could go wrong with Dickinson and Love. But a lot could go right too. You’d have two of the most dynamic scorers in college hoops sharing the basketball. Both have the ability to take over games, but each is also known at times as a less-than-willing defender.

It would be fun to watch. I know I’d take Dickinson back with open arms. At the end of the day though, if I had a crystal ball, I’d probably have it on Kansas. The fit just makes sense and checks more boxes than Michigan basketball.

Otherwise, Hunter probably wouldn’t have entered the transfer portal in the first place. Yet, the Wolverines situation is better than it was and he’s tight with Juwan. Michigan would surely love to have him back and for now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Next. 3 takeaways from transfer portal additions. dark

The only thing that’s 100 percent right now, is that the door on a return isn’t closed.
