The Michigan football spring game is on Saturday and here is how to watch the Wolverines, as well as what to watch.

It’s hard to believe but spring football has basically come and gone for the Michigan football team, which wil take the field on Saturday for its final practice/scrimmage.

Michigan Football will hit the field at 3 pm EST and will take part in warmups before the game will begin. Just like last season, the teams have been divided into the Maize and Blue. There was a draft and there will be four quarters with the score kept and referees.

Overall, it’s an approach I really appreciate as a fan because it gives us a much better chance to evaluate the players and see some of the young guys in game situations.

It’s a great competitive environment too and I believe last year, the winning team was awarded with a steak dinner to bring in some added motivation. Michigan football fans can watch the game on the Big Ten Network at 3 PM EST or listen on the radio at Mgoblue.com.

What to watch in the Michigan football spring game

There are a bunch of storylines to watch but here are some quick thoughts of what I’ll be watching during Saturday’s Michigan football spring game.

  • The backup QB/RB battles. I want to see Jack Tuttle and Davis Warren, plus I’m excited to see C.J. Stokes, Benjamin Hall, and Cole Cabana. We know who is starting at these positions but who will earn a spot on the two-deep?
  • How does the offensive line look? This spring has been important for guys like Trente Jones, Raheem Anderson, Greg Crippen, and others trying to lock down a starting job. I want to see Myles Hinton, the only new O-line guy in the scrimmage, but overall, I’m interested to see what the top 10 guys look like because I think the O-line will be elite once again.
  • How will the new guys look — transfers such as Ernest Hausmann, A.J. Barner, Tuttle, Myles Hinton, etc. There are some new freshmen too that could have an early impact but mostly, I’ll have my eyes on the new transfer pickups such as EDGE Josaiah Stewart.
  • I can’t wait to see cornerback/wideout Amorion Walker. I want to see what he looks like but I’m also very intrigued by the development of Tyler Morris and Darrius Clemons too.
  • Going into the game, it’s my thought that this is Jim Harbaugh’s best team and I want to see if that thought holds up. J.J. McCarthy seems better and I don’t know if we’ll see him much and if not, that’s ok. More than anything I’m excited to get our first true glimpse of the 2023 Michigan football team and see if it meets the eye test. My prediction is that it will.
