Michigan Football: Breaking down addition of Brandyn Hillman to 2023 class
Michigan football has been closing in on a commitment with Brandyn Hillman in the 2023 class and the Wolverines got it on Sunday.
The Michigan football team added its 25th (eventual) signee to the 2023 recruiting class with the commitment of Brandyn Hillman on Sunday.
Hillman, a former Notre Dame signee, was recently released from his national letter of intent by the Irish. Michigan football offered soon after. The Wolverines hosted the four-star athlete for a visit this weekend and now, they have gotten a commitment.
Hillman is out of Virginia and ranked as the No. 214 overall prospect in the 2023 class. He played quarterback last season in high school, but he will play safety for Michigan football, at least to start.
In addition to being signed with Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Ohio State offered Hillman the same day as Michigan football and the Wolverines were able to win out.
Here are some thoughts.
Breaking down Brandyn Hillman’s commitment to Michigan football
- This is a solid commitment for Michigan football. The Wolverines had to fend off some other rivals for his commitment and he’s the No. 7 athlete in the 2023 class.
- The 6-foot-1, 191-pounder fills a big need for Michigan football in the 2023 class and is the only safety now committed for the Wolverines. They did have some other players capable of moving to that position but Hillman is ideal for it.
- I’m not sure exactly what led to Hillman being let out of his scholarship but it was a good thing for Michigan football. This happened a couple of years ago with Xavier Worthy to the Wolverines. At any rate, Hillman is the fifth highest-rated commitment for the Wolverines.
- Michigan’s blue-chip ratio improved as the Wolverines now have 11 blue-chippers in 2023 out of 25 signees. That puts the blue-chip ratio at 44 percent for the 2023 class. You want that number over 50 percent, but all things considered, it’s a nice finish for U-M.
