More visit news regarding Michigan football recruiting, a big win for women’s gymnastics, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

While the Michigan football recruiting class in 2023 was a little disappointing, at least in terms of its overall ranking, the Wolverines are off to a strong start in 2024.

They are currently ranked in the top 10 of the 2024 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and hope to stay there. Michigan football is also off to a strong start in 2025 with the commitment of top-100 cornerback Chris Ewald.

Ewald is ranked 31st overall according to the On3.com industry rankings for the 2025 class. The question was always whether Michigan football could hold his commitment. It won’t be easy and Ewald did take a visit to Florida State this month.

Yet, the 6-foot, 161-pound cornerback will make a return trip to Michigan football according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider and a top-100 2024 recruit will be joining him.

That’s Zaquan Patterson, a dynamic top-100 defender that could be a safety or a linebacker at the next level. He plays on the same high school team as Ewald at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Patterson is projected to land at Miami according to the On3 prediction machine and we know Mario Cristobal is a dynamic recruiter.

However, Michigan football is getting him for a second visit. He was also on campus last spring and who knows, if the Wolverines can persuade him to return for an official visit, they might have a real shot.

However, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State are all listed as “warm” on his 247 sports profile so that means it won’t be an easy pull.

In other Michigan football recruiting news, the Wolverines are going to host Kelden Ryan a 2025 quarterback out of Texas later this month. He’s not ranked yet but has plenty of interest and his visit list includes Baylor, Oklahoma State, Texas, Penn State, and Arkansas.

The first visit this spring will be to Michigan football according to his On3.com profile and he will be another quarterback to monitor in the 2025 class.

Michigan Wolverines women’s gymnastics beats No. 1

Back in 2021, the Michigan Wolverines won their first national championship in women’s gymnastics but after knocking off top-ranked Oklahoma on Monday night in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines could have a chance to do it again.

The Michigan Wolverines lost to Oklahoma earlier in the season but won on Monday night with a score of 198.025, compared to 197.925 for the Sooners. It was the second time this season that Michigan was able to get over 198 points.

Gabby Wilson was huge in the win for the U-M. She won three events and posted an all-around score of 39.800, which was the fifth-best in Michigan Wolverines’ history.

Michigan Wolverines will host Ohio State in Big Ten hockey semifinals

The fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines are looking to defend their Big Ten hockey title and after advancing past Wisconsin, Ohio State is up next. The Buckeyes were able to beat Notre Dame in the Big Ten quarterfinals and will come to Ann Arbor this weekend for a single-elimination battle to reach the Big Ten championship.

It should be noted that in the last two-game set, in Ohio, the Wolveirnes went home with a loss and a draw. However, they will be at Yost Arena and that should be an advantage.

The first puck will drop Saturday night at 6:30 PM EST.
