Michigan basketball lost another game in which the Wolverines led by double digits in the second half on Sunday and it’s clear this isn’t a tournament team.

It’s hard to defend this Michigan basketball team. Hell, it’s hard to watch this Michigan basketball team and Sunday was the latest example.

When the game was on the line, the ball was either stolen from Hunter Dickinson, dribbled off his own foot, or heaved up in the final seconds, because flat out, no team in college basketball is worse in the final minute than Michigan.

Oh and don’t forget the shot clock violation as Dickinson and Kobe Bufkin had no clue how much time was left with 3 minutes to go.

I don’t know why Juwan Howard even wastes timeouts. He either calls bad calls or his team doesn’t listen or execute but either way, it always tends to look disorganized and like they spent the entire time chit-chatting instead of drawing up a play. It’s just a favor for the opponent like it was at the end of regulation against Illinois and Indiana.

Even the lucky shot against Wisconsin was just that — luck. It wasn’t the result of a good play call. There was no play. It was a desperation lob to avoid a five-second call because no one knew what they were doing and a prayer by Dickinson was answered.

At the end of regulation on Thursday, Dickinson got the ball and missed a point-blank shot to win. In two key spots Sunday, he turned it over.

He still relies far too much on his left hand and Indiana took advantage down the stretch. It was an ugly defeat and unless this team makes it to Sunday at the Big Ten tournament or wins it, it’s not going dancing and frankly, it doesn’t deserve to.

Michigan basketball led by seven with under two minutes to go on Thursday. It led by 12 points with less than 10 on Sunday, yet the loss felt inevitable. I was just waiting for the Wolverine to crumble because that’s who they are and hell or high water, they seem to always fall apart.

That’s not subjective or an opinion, it’s a fact. Twice against Indiana this season Michigan allowed Indiana to rally from double digits to win. Michigan has allowed a bunch of others to do the same and it’s not a pattern. This team just isn’t very good, especially when it counts.
