Where Michigan basketball stands in the latest bracketology, Michigan football players at the NFL combine, and more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

The Michigan Wolverines notched a huge win on the basketball court on Sunday as Hunter Dickinson’s legendary shot forced overtime against Wisconsin before Michigan basketball was able to rally for a season-saving win.

It’s not that beating the Badgers improved the Michigan basketball resume all that much. It didn’t. But it allowed the Wolverines to avoid a loss at home to a Quad-2 opponent and continue the momentum Michigan had after winning its previous two games.

Michigan basketball has now won three games in a row and is still moving up still in the latest bracketology projections from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi. Last week at this time, the Wolverines were the ninth team out. This week, they are fourth and clearly trending up.

The Michigan Wolverines also have two clear chances to improve their resume in a dramatic fashion this week with Quad-1 road games at Illinois (Thursday) and Indiana (Sunday).

Win one of those and the first one of the Big Ten tournament, and Michigan basketball will be playing in the field of 68. Hell, if U-M can win both games, it could still win a piece of the Big Ten title if Purdue drops both games.

It’s been a wild year but there is no doubt that the Michigan Wolverines are playing their best basketball at the right time, once again.

Michigan football tied for third-most NFL combine invites

The NFL combine starts today and it will have a strong Michigan football flavor as nine former Wolverines will take part in the event in Indy.

Mazi Smith, Mike Morris, Ronnie Bell, Ryan Hayes, Jake Moody, Olu Oluwaimit, Brad Robbins, Luke Schoomaker, and DJ Turner are the former Michigan Wolverines that will be in attendance according to On3.com, which is behind only Georgia and Alabama.

The Crimson Tide has 13 players that were invited to the NFL combine. Georgia has 12. LSU, Florida, Michigan football, and TCU each have nine. Clemson had eight and Ohio State had seven.

Gemon Green certainly could have gotten an invite too. He’s someone I believe will wind up getting drafted into the NFL, so the number could have been double digits and who knows, Michigan football could have double-digit draft picks. It wouldn’t be the first time under Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan Wolverines win another Big Ten gymnastics title

Over the weekend, the Michigan Wolverines won the Big Ten Indoor Women’s Track and Field championship for the first time since 2016 and on Monday, the hardware kept on coming as the women’s gymnastics teams captured another Big Ten regular-season title.

The Wolverines who are ranked No. 4 in the country, shared the title with Michigan State after posting a 198.275 at the final meet at Nebraska.

Michigan should be in the mix for a national championship in women’s gymnastics and will square off against No. 1 Oklahoma later this week.
