Michigan basketball rallied for an improbable win on Sunday and here are the gut reactions from the Wolverines’ win over Wisconsin.

With two seconds remaining on Sunday against Wisconsin, it seemed like Michigan basketball’s NCAA tournament hopes were sunk.

The Badgers looked like they were able to rally from a double-digit deficit for a win and a home loss would have come at the worst possible time for Michigan basketball.

Michigan needed three points to tie the game and in a situation where the Wolverines have struggled all season, Hunter Dickinson delivered the biggest three points of his Michigan basketball career, tying the game and sending it to overtime with a buzzer-beater.

From there, a critical 3-point play by Kobe Bufkin, a 3-ball by Joey Baker, and another big bucket from Dickinson, as well as a string of defensive stops, sealed an 87-79 overtime win for the Wolverines who are now 17-12 overall and 11-7 in he Big Ten (tied for second).

Bufkin, a sophomore and future NBA lottery pick, scored a career-high 28 points. Dickinson came up big too with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting in addition to 10 rebounds.

Dug McDaniel was also massive with 20 points. He turned it over twice but hit big shot after big shot including some clutch free throws in the extra frame.

At times, Michigan basketball looked like it was going to run away from Wisconsin, and at other times, the Wolverines didn’t look like they deserved to win.

But that’s Big Ten basketball. Michigan gutted it out and if the Wolverines can win one next week, they are going to have a great shot at going dancing.

Here are the gut reactions from Michigan’s win over Wisconsin.

Gut reactions from Michigan basketball win

  • Hunter Dickinson cemented himself as a Michigan legend.
  • It was the biggest shot of his career and the first-half stretch was also one of his best.
  • Kobe Bufkin is special. He wants the ball late and as good as Dickinson was, he was still the Wolverines’ best player.
  • Can’t say enough about Dug McDaniel. He’s averaging 18 points per game in three straight wins over tournament teams. Impressive.
  • Joey Baker didn’t shoot the ball well but was clutch when needed.
  • People rip Terrance Williams but he does some important little things. He’s a good rebounder and a good passer. It helped Michigan win this game.
  • Tarris Reed is going to be really good.
  • Michigan basketball is going to make the tournament. I’m a believer.
  • Go Blue!
