Gut reactions: Michigan basketball continues flame out at Penn State
Things went from bad to worse on Sunday for Michigan basketball and here are the gut reactions to another ugly loss.
It’s getting harder and harder to have any hope for this Michigan basketball team as the Wolverines suffered their worst defeat yet in an 83-61 blowout on Sunday.
Penn State is a solid team. It’s not that the Nittany Lions aren’t good they are and they nearly won in Ann Arbor. But this was a game Michigan basketball desperately needed. The Wolverines are now 11-10 on the season as well as 5-5 in the Big Ten.
Forget the NCAA tournament. I’m not even going to talk about that until this team actually starts playing basketball. Jett Howard started the game strongly and returned from injury to score 21 points. He scored 15 points and made his first six shots to start.
However, no one else bothered to show up and that includes Hunter Dickinson who was 3-of-9 for six points and was terrible defensively. It wasn’t just him though. It was the entire team.
This was a one-point game and then Penn State went on an 18-0 run or whatever it was. The Wolverines gave up a slew of open 3-pointers and instead of battling in the second half, the defensive lapses continued.
It was ugly and embarrassing. Here are the gut reactions.
Gut reactions to Michigan basketball loss to Penn State
- Michigan needed to win this game and totally fell flat.
- Maybe Hunter Dickinson shouldn’t have come back.
- If Jett doesn’t come back, his entire career will be wasted.
- It’s hard to understand the rotations and the lack of adjustments.
- Juwan Howard is getting out-coached on a nightly basis.
- I’ve defended Juwan but it’s getting harder and harder.
- You keep thinking the turnaround will happen but I’ve lost hope.
- Outside of Jett, Michigan was 1-of-15 from 3-point range.
- This team isn’t good enough and I don’t have any answers.
- Apparently, Juwan Howard doesn’t have answers either.
