Michigan football landed a new commitment on Wednesday, Jordan Poole hit a game-winning shot and much more in our Michigan Wolverines news roundup.

It’s always a great day to be a Michigan Wolverine and today is no different. Running through the headlines, it was a solid day on the recruiting trail for Michigan football as Ted Hammond became the latest Ohio recruit to pledge to the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday.

Hammond is a three-star recruit according to the 247 sports composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, and will be a three or five-technique down the road for Michigan football.

The Cincinatti prospect is ranked No. 357 overall in the 247 sports composite rankings, as well as 13th in the state of Ohio. He’s the second commitment from Ohio in the 2024 class, joining four-star offensive lineman Luke Hamilton.

That’s in addition to the four players Michigan football signed from the Buckeye state in the 2023 recruiting class and that trend is a good thing overall.

Some of the best Michigan football players have come from Ohio and that’s a state where the Michigan Wolverines need to find success on the trail and right now, they are.

Now, they need to see if they can land some of the higher-rated prospects such as five-star cornerback Bryce West.

Former Michigan Wolverines standout Jordan Poole beats the buzzer

Fans of the Michigan Wolverines will know a thing or two about Jordan Poole buzzer beaters and last night, he had another for the Warriors.

Golden State has struggled a little bit this season in defense of its NBA championship but last night, they took on Memphis and used a layup by Poole with just over one second left on the clock to know off the Grizzlies and improve to 24-24.

The Warriors are eighth in the Western Conference as of right now.

Aidan Hutchinson is a finalist for Rookie of the Year

Another Michigan Wolverines legend is Aidan Hutchinson and after going No. 2 overall to the Lions, Hutch has been named as a finalist for 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The former Michigan football legend who was the Heisman Trophy runner-up following the 2021 season, notched 52 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions, and three passes defended as Detroit finished with a 9-8 record.

Sauce Gardner was named an All-Pro for the Jets this season playing cornerback as a rookie, so he could be hard to beat, but either way, it was a tremendous season for the former Wolverine.

Two important Michigan basketball games

Lastly, there are two key Michigan basketball games today. The first is the women at Maryland in a matchup of top-25 teams at 6:30 PM EST. The Wolverines are fresh off a loss to Indiana but are still two games back of first place in the Big Ten.

Maryland is sitting in fourth place, one game ahead of the Wolverines (16-4,6-3) would fall two games back in the race for a top-4 spot (and a Big Ten tourney double-bye) so it’s a big game as a win would avoid a two-game losing streak for the first time this season.

Michigan’s men’s basketball team also has a showdown with No. 1 Purdue tonight. The Boilermakers will come to Ann Arbor as the top-ranked team in college basketball and featuring superstar Zach Edey.

Next. 9 potential candidates to replace Matt Weiss. dark

We’ll see how he matches up with Hunter Dickinson. The Wolverines beat a highly-ranked Purdue team last season on their way to making the NCAA tournament. Maybe a win on Thursday night would jump-start something for Michigan basketball. The game is on Fox Sports One at 9 PM EST.
