In our latest Michigan Wolverines news roundup, Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh are negotiating, Andrel Anthony picks a destination, and more.

We keep waiting and hoping to hear good news when it comes to Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh. He interviewed with the Denver Broncos earlier this week and at the moment, things sort of seem stuck in limbo.

Harbaugh has spent the last eight seasons coaching the Michigan Wolverines and led them to back-to-back Big Ten championships, as well as two straight wins over Ohio State.

The win in Columbus in November was one of Harbaugh’s finest moments as a head coach and probably his best win with Michigan football.

At any rate, we all know the rest of the story. Sam Webb is reporting that negotiations are moving in a positive direction. His sources still feel like Harbaugh will be coaching the Michigan Wolverines once again in 2023, but until a new deal is signed, nothing is guaranteed.

It sounds like the sticking point has been salary and buyout. I said this yesterday, Michigan football should be writing Jim Harbaugh and a blank check. Literally. I get wanting to have a larger buyout to keep Harbaugh from looking to the NFL all the time.

We’ll see what happens but I guess as I sit here on Wednesday morning, I feel more optimistic about Jim Harbaugh staying. Either way, this needs to be resolved soon or it’s going to have the same impact on the 2024 recruiting class as it did in 2023.

Here’s more Michigan Wolverines news on this Wednesday morning:

Andrel Anthony to Oklahoma

One of Michigan football’s transfers has landed at a new school as Andrel Anthony announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday. Anthony didn’t have a shortage of offers but I’m just happy that he didn’t go to Michigan State and that he’s not in the Big Ten.

I believe the Sooners got a good one and that Anthony is one that Michigan will wish wouldn’t have gotten away. Sometimes, a change of scenery can do wonders.

It should be noted that Deuce Spurlock, another former Michigan football in the transfer portal, has committed to Florida.

Michigan women’s basketball beats Purdue

After the Michigan women’s team lost to Iowa last week and dropped to 17th in the AP poll, the Wolverines went on the road against Purdue on Tuesday night and put together a solid performance, especially in the second half, to win 80-59.

A 10-0 run in the third quarter broke out what was a close game between Michigan and Purdue. The Wolverines outscored the Boilermakers by 12 in the stanza, pushing a four-point halftime advantage to 16.

Leigha Brown continued her strong 2022-23 season with 21 points. Emily Kiser and Laila Phelia pitched in with 17 apiece. Michigan (14-3) will host Michigan State on Saturday in a Maize Out game at Crisler. The game will be on BTN+.
