Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from a purposeful win over Penn State
By Nick Popio
3. Michigan only had three turnovers, all in the second half
Michigan’s first giveaway of the night came in the second 20 minutes with about 16 minutes and 20 seconds to go.
Kobe Bufkin was driving in the lane and tried to dump it off to Hunter Dickinson in traffic, but the pass was stolen away. Penn State tied it up at 47 a short time after that and that’s when Michigan made its move.
Michigan basketball ran off 14 in a row following that sequence with highlight reel plays from Dickinson, Terrance Williams, and Jett Howard. Dickinson had a block that got the crowd off of its feet, Williams drained a three and Howard flexed on Penn State with a good old-fashioned three-point play the hard way.
Penn State climbed back in it again, but Michigan would not let them overcome them on the scoreboard. Michigan closed it out on the free throw line and held Penn State scoreless for the final two minutes and 17 seconds.
Michigan basketball has won all nine of its matchups this season by scoring over 70 points, which is their magic number to victory. They’ll need that and then some on Saturday afternoon to make it four-for-four in the Big Ten.
