The recruitment of Jyaire Hill was back and forth but in the end, the four-star cornerback has signed with Michigan football.

Jyaire Hill has kept people guessing about his recruitment since last summer and he continued earlier this week when he released a top five but didn’t include Michigan football.

This was right after a slew of recruiting experts put in projections for him to wind up with the Wolverines. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is ranked 195th overall in the 2023 recruiting class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is the No. 24 cornerback.

Back when Michigan football really started its push, he was barely ranked inside the top 500. The Wolverines knew something then that others didn’t, which is often the case.

Illinois made a really strong push to keep the in-state talent but the departure of Ryan Walters for the head-coaching job at Purdue seemed to hurt their chances.

At any rate, after all the head fakes, Michigan football has signed Hill, who becomes the second four-star recruit of the day to commit and ninth overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

Another blue-chip talent

The close was strong last year and by adding two of its top four ranked recruits on Early National Signing Day, the Wolverines are finishing strong once again.

Michigan has proven it can identify and develop three-star prospects. And sometimes, there are just flat-out misses by the recruiting services on guys like Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant.

Colston Loveland was also a three-star recruit before getting a late bump. Those guys are out and Michigan football is able to find them. Hill is sort of another example.

The Wolverines started prioritizing him and you wondered why with his ranking. But the recruiting services eventually caught up and now, he’s the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois.

Over the years, Michigan has done really well in the state. J.J. McCarthy, A.J. Henning, Trevor Keegan, and others have signed from there. Hill could be the next great one and after cornerback recruiting looked a little suspect a month ago, U-M put together a damn good haul.

Next. 3 thoughts on Karmello English commitment. dark

Cameron Calhoun is a top-500 commitment, DJ Waller is a potential cornerback too, and overall, Steve Clinkscale did a really solid job once again.
