Depth is still an issue

There are some talented guys on the bench but Michigan basketball doesn’t have a lot of reliable depth and there isn’t really a set rotation either.

The injury to Llewellyn was part of that. Tarris Reed has flashed and his development is promising. He’s also one of the only rim protectors so I would expect him to get minutes during Big Ten play.

Joey Baker is shooting 42 percent from 3-point range, however, he’s been inconsistent with his shooting and he doesn’t bring much else. Jace Howard made a triple against Lipscomb and saw some minutes at the four.

With his defensive prowess, he seems worth giving more minutes too. Youssef Khayat might be a name to watch. He can defend and has some potential as a shooter, yet he’s really unproven.

Outside of Baker though, there are a lot of unknowns which is a pretty scary thing heading into Big Ten play. Hopefully, some of these young guys develop and step up, but more than that, Michigan has to avoid injuries and hope key players can avoid fouls now that the Big Ten season is basically upon us.

There is one more game in non-conference against North Carolina on Wednesday and then it’s the Big Ten for at least the next 20 games.
