Michigan football has lost two players at the tight end position as Erick All and Louis Hansen have entered officially said their goodbyes.

Transfer portal season is here and Michigan football fans are getting a taste of it as Erick All and Louis Hansen have each entered the transfer portal.

It’s hard to see All leave. He was a great player for the Wolverines and really stood out in the 2021 season. He’ll best be remembered for his game-winning touchdown catch against Penn State in the 2021 season, which was critical to the Big Ten championship run.

All thought about leaving for the NFL after last season and he would have been selected last April if he had gone but he basically missed the entire 2022 season due to injury.

There have been hints about All leaving Michigan football to join Cade McNamara at Iowa and it wouldn’t be shocking if he ended up there with his former quarterback.

All is a really good player — an All-Big Ten caliber player. Louis Hansen, the other player to leave in the transfer portal is a former four-star recruit and a kid that I had high hopes for.

Reacting to Michigan football transfers

Hansen has just been buried on the depth chart. A bunch of players came back last season such as All, Luke Schoonmaker, and Joel Honigford. Hansen is a 6-foot-5 player who can excel as a pass catcher and a blocker.

He even stood out this past spring. But Colston Loveland has really emerged in recent weeks and frankly, he looks like the future long-term starter which would have been true if All returned or not.

These transfer portal departures are going to happen. But if Michigan football is going to add players, it needs to have some subtractions too and while these players are both talented, with Loveland and others, this isn’t a reason to freak out.

It’s understandable because every player wants an opportunity and those might be hard to come by at Michigan.
