Michigan football is back in the Big Ten Title game for the second year in a row after defeating Ohio State in Columbus to clinch the Big Ten East crown.

The Wolverines will get a chance to defend their Big Ten Title on Saturday as they’ll take on the Big Ten West division champion, Purdue. The Boilermakers are 8-4 this season and clinched the division title in the final week of the regular season, just like the Wolverines.

Despite the Wolverines going into Columbus and beating the Buckeyes by three scores and asserting their dominance, Michigan football can’t take the Big Ten Title game lightly as Purdue, under head coach Jeff Brohm, has been known to knock off top teams.

Michigan football can’t take Purdue lightly in the Big Ten Title game

Jeff Brohm, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the Boilermakers, has played spoiler seven times.

Purdue has knocked off seven ranked teams over the last six seasons, knocking off two this season. Five of those seven wins have been against undefeated teams which includes one this season against Minnesota.

Now, of course, the two wins against AP Top 25 wins, Minnesota and Illinois, aren’t as impressive as the wins over #2 Iowa and #3 Michigan State just a season ago. Or the wins over #2 Ohio State and #19 Iowa in 2018, but the Top 25 wins still matter.

The bottom line is that playing a Michigan football team that will more than likely come into the Big Ten Title game ranked #2 in the country won’t be unfamiliar territory for the Boilermakers.

Purdue will have nothing to lose and they will give Michigan everything they have. The Boilermakers will play with no fear against the mighty Wolverines.

Michigan must focus on the task at hand, winning the Big Ten Title game and beating Purdue because if they don’t, their playoff hopes, and with that, their national championship hopes, will get much, much smaller.
