Michigan Football: Top 5 plays from win over Ohio State

Michigan football had a number of plays that allowed the Wolverines to dominate Yesterday’s game against Ohio State.

From those that kept them in it in the first half, to those that allowed them to pull away, there was no shortage of impact moments on both sides of the ball.

However, there were five that really stood out as game-changing plays. A day after the Wolverine’s monumental win over the Buckeyes, we’re going to look at which individual moments were the biggest.

#5: Cornelius Johnson’s 75-yard touchdown grab

It was getting to be late in the second quarter, and Ohio State had just kicked a field goal to go up 13-10. Michigan’s offense had largely struggled, aside from one big play.

Michigan football needed a solid drive resulting in points to make sure Ohio State wasn’t up two scores going into the half at worst. While it wasn’t much of a drive, they certainly got a favorable result.

On the first play of the drive, Cornelius Johnson completely lost Buckeye safety Cam Martinez on a double move and found himself wide open. J.J. McCarthy connected with him, and without an Ohio State defender anywhere near him, Johnson had himself an easy 75-yard touchdown grab. Just like that.

This play did a number of things for Michigan football. First, it established that Ohio State had to respect Michigan’s passing attack. The plan to fully commit to the run now had two pretty big holes poked into it.

This went a long way in opening up the run in the second half, which proved to be huge for Michigan. The play also completely shifted the momentum in Michigan’s favor. The big swing didn’t last too long, as Ohio State responded with a touchdown of their own, but it carried through halftime and gave the Wolverines the confidence that OSU couldn’t stop them.
