Michigan football will win the battle in the trenches

After winning the Joe Moore award last year as the best offensive line in college football during the 2021 season, the Wolverines find themselves again on the list of finalists for that same award.

The defensive line has been outstanding on the other side of the ball. In a year where fans, media members locally, and national pundits all assumed that the defensive line would take a step back, they’re even better than they were last year despite losing Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo.

What does this all add up to?

When you have one of the best offensive and defensive lines in the nation it doesn’t matter who you play. The talent in the trenches travels and can play in any weather condition.

It’s going to be a cold, gloomy day on Saturday when Illinois rolls into town, perfect conditions for trench warfare to do battle and Michigan has a distinct advantage with the talent on both lines.

Add all that up and it’s another reason why we think the Wolverines win — and win handily on Saturday.
