It’s flip season — at least it is for Michigan football as the Wolverines are hosting a pair of Wisconsin commits this week and are poised to flip both.

It’s looking like it might be a good week/weekend for Michigan football recruiting.

The Wolverines are poised to host some key visitors this weekend and with Nathan Efobi set to announce his commitment on Friday, Michigan football seems likely to add to the 2023 class.

And it’s looking more like it’s going to add a few recruits in relatively short order.

We have talked before about Michigan football’s efforts to flip a pair of Wisconsin D-line commitments — Jamel Howard and Roderick Pierce.

Pierce has already been projected to flip by EJ Holland and earlier this week, Holland, a Michigan recruiting reporter for On3 upped his confidence level.

Probably because Pierce is expected to be back on campus. Another Wisconsin commitment, Jamel Howard, another defensive lineman, is also expected to be in Ann Arbor.

Howard is a 6-foot-3, 320-pound nose tackle and with just one D-line commitment right now, he’s an important target since Michigan will need more depth at nose tackle.

And even before he visits Ann Arbor this weekend, a slew of 247 sports insiders led by Steve Wiltfong, Allen Trieu, and Brice March have put in crystal ball projections for Howard to flip from Wisconsin to the Wolverines.

Wiltfong and Trieu are two of the top recruiting analysts on 247 sports and I tend to believe their intel in this situation as Michigan has been trending in the right direction for both Chicago area recruits.

What Michigan football would be getting

Howard isn’t ranked where some would like (1,230 overall) but frankly, but if the Michigan football staff likes him, that’s good enough for me. They have proven to be much better at evaluating talent than the recruiting sites and Howard is the 300-pounder the Wolverines need.

Pierce is ranked 738th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder is more of a Kris Jenkins type I would say, and could be perfect for the three-technique.

There aren’t any crystal ball projections for Pierce yet, but Michigan football has an 86-percent shot of flipping him according to the On3 prediction machine, so it looks like the Wolverines will be adding to their 2023 haul relatively soon, maybe as early as Friday in the case of Efobi.
