4 things to watch for Michigan Football before Ohio State
More Redzone success
This is an incredibly obvious goal. Jake Moody is third in the nation in total points. He’s only one point behind Blake Corum for second. That is, dare I say, an embarrassment for a team as dominant as Michigan football.
With the offensive line and the playmakers the Wolverines have, touchdowns should be just about automatic when they enter the red zone. We can only hope that the staff has been saving all of their good play calls for Ohio State, but something needs to change, and fast.
I’m not going to Defcon 1 yet, but if things don’t improve soon I will be. I’m sure we all remember that last year’s team had the same struggles. Those issues didn’t disappear until game 11 against Maryland.
Because of that, I won’t lose hope yet, but I’m definitely getting nervous. Last year, the Wolverines were able to beat the Buckeyes because they scored touchdowns in the red zone and did a good job of limiting the Buckeyes to field goals. A similar formula will be needed this year.
I have immense trust in Jesse Minter and this defense. I think that the defensive strength, combined with the fact that Ohio State has had some odd struggles in the red zone, will give Michigan plenty of chances to stay in and win the game.
What does Michigan have to do? Convert on their chances. Score touchdowns, and win The Game.
