Rattle Gavin Wimsatt

Gavin Wimsatt was already announced as the starting quarterback this week by Greg Schiano and there’s no question he’s the most talented QB on the roster.

In terms of pure talent, the only quarterback on both teams that probably has more of it is Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. Wimsatt was a recruiting target for the Wolverines at one point and he was a top-100 recruit for a reason.

But he enrolled a year early (in 2021) and so far in his college career, Wimsatt has attempted 61 passes and has only completed 40 percent of them. He has one touchdown and five interceptions this season and Rutgers has the worst passing offense in the Big Ten.

Michigan needs to make Rutgers one-dimensional, which shouldn’t be too tough — the Wolverines have done it against everyone else — and force Wimsatt to make plays. Jesse Minter should be able to confuse him with a bunch of different looks and the pass rush, as well as the secondary, can do the rest.

Wimsatt is going to be a good quarterback, but the Wolverines should teach him something about facing an elite defense on Saturday.
