Another top-100 commitment

Five-star prospects are always the prize and Michigan basketball could have a chance to land one of those in five-star point guard Isaiah Collier. He’s the No. 2 ranked prospect in the On3 consensus rankings and while USC has pulled ahead as the favorite, Michigan is still in it.

At any rate, Howard has found his comfort zone in landing top-100 recruits. He’ll get some elite prospects from time to time but as Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate showed, talent isn’t necessarily everything.

Michigan had the No. 1 recruiting class in 2021 and three of the top pledges aren’t even on the roster anymore after Frankie Collins left in the transfer portal.

It’s fine to take shots at elite players and five-stars. The lack of NIL at Michigan makes it tough, but Juwan will keep Michigan in the mix for those players.

Yet, just like John Beilein, Howard is starting to get really good at landing top-100 players who project to be contributors in the Big Ten for multiple years.

If you get enough of those and hit on a star or two, that’s a formula for being a consistent Big Ten and national contender.
